JET SET MEETING PLACE
Cannes, with its mild, sunny climate, long promenade, elegant villas, hotels and convention centres is one of the best-known and most popular cities on the Cote d’Azur. The famous film festival held every spring is undoubtedly the most high-profile of the many festivals held here, but the city, which has around 70 000 inhabitants, has much else to offer: cinemas, theatres, swimming pools, beaches, discos, museums, discos, galleries, charming shops, restaurants and much more. When the city’s restaurants close, the partying continues in the lively old town into the small hours. There is no shortage of nearby excursion destinations: Monte Carlo, Nice, Antibes, Hyeres, Saint-Tropez, Provence, the Camargue or France’s multifaceted hinterland.
FESTIVAL CITY
When talking of the culture that Cannes has to offer, the festivals of course deserve pride of place. There is hardly a season in which no festival occurs. Boating enthusiasts come for the Festival de la Plaisance. There is also the famous film festival, the increasingly important Dance Festival or MIDEM, the international music fair. Going to the movies is an obvious thing to do in this film capital. While Cannes does not yet have an ultramodern movie theatre, just three small, standard cinemas, but these are all centrally located and offer a wide range of independent films as well as blockbusters.
