REFRESHING BREEZE AND HOT DANCING
The metropolitan area of Cartagena has about one million inhabitants. But the old city, where the biggest part of everyday life is taking place, is conveniently arranged and romantic. The town is located on the southern edge of the Caribbean Sea, and it is sometimes quiet and sometimes vibrant. The former Spanish colonial town is surrounded by an impressive fort that was supposed to keep out pirates in the past. Colourful colonial buildings, striking churches and cathedrals as well as green parks are embedded within the city walls. The city’s cobbled squares invite the visitor to linger around. In the evening, a pleasant breeze sweeps through the roads and carries the music out of the bars onto the streets, while vivacious dancing is taking place inside..
CARIBBEAN BEACHES AND ANCIENT CULTURES
If you want to have a look across the city from above, you should visit the Convento de la Popa from where you can enjoy a breathtaking view across the harbour and the sea stretching out below in a deeply turquoise colour. Without a doubt, you should enjoy the sea and the Caribbean lifestyle as much as possible. It is done best on the Rosario Islands. White sandy beaches, crystal clear water and numerous romantic spots are to be found less than 2 hours away from the mainland. 50 kilometres outside the city, Colombia’s highest mountain range rises up to more than 5,700 meters – the Sierra Nevada de Santa Maria. There, you can find dark green rainforests and forgotten towns of long lost civilizations.
