A language study trip to Peru will introduce you to a country steeped in tradition with a fascinating cultural heritage. It boasts magnificent mountain scenery and a long coastline with beaches for swimming and surfing.

MYSTERIOUS HERITAGE

Peru is a country full of fascinating stories. There are many places where you can explore the relics of the Incas during your language study trip to Peru. The most famous of which is the lost city of Machu Picchu. This site is situated at over 2,000 metres above sea level and is surrounded by soaring mountain peaks. A visit to the site involves a journey through secluded valleys and dense jungle. The Nazca Lines, a series of giant ancient geoglyphs located in the Nazca Desert, are a true mystery and a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. The geometric shapes and animal figures are best observed from the air. Peru is home to one of the largest percentages of indigenous people in the world. Many still wear traditional costumes on a daily basis – colourful garments topped with a hat or knitted cap. Peruvian music has also remained true to its roots: Andean flutes and panpipes are played throughout the country.

FOR HIKING AND WATER ENTHUSIASTS

The Andes are Peru's most striking feature. These spectacular mountains are a veritable paradise for keen hikers and climbers – from a gentle trek through rolling green countryside, past mountain lakes and waterfalls, to a challenging alpine climb in the glacial regions. With countless peaks over 6,000 metres high, the Cordillera Blanca mountain range is a further attraction. If you're planning an excursion into the mountains, make sure you give yourself plenty of time to acclimatise. If you'd prefer to head for the water after your Spanish class, then why not take a boat ride on Lake Titicaca and soak up the surrounding mountain scenery. There are also 3,000 km of coastline with dream beaches waiting to welcome water lovers. Some sections of the coastline boast huge waves and offer some of the best surfing conditions in the world.
