Colchester is the oldest documented city in Britain and has over the past 2000 years played a leading role in many of the key events in British history. When London was just a village, the invading Romans made Colchester their capital. Today it is one of the most important cities in the area with a wide range of modern shopping, sports and entertainment, such as the “Leisure World” sports centre, which offers the finest swimming and fitness facilities in eastern England. Since the little town has only 140 000 inhabitants, students have no difficulty finding their way around and making friends. Colchester is also part of the fairytale scenery of Essex, has an attractive, pedestrian friendly city centre and is only 50 minutes by train from London.
