FOOTBALL CITY
Manchester is famous for having two football teams in the Premier League: Manchester City and Manchester United. “Old Trafford”, the Manchester United stadium, is located in Trafford. Since 2003, Manchester City has played in the then-new “City of Manchester” stadium. Above all, Manchester United, also known by their nickname “The Red Devils”, achieved dominance in national and international competitions in the 90s under their trainer Sir Alex Ferguson and was acknowledged as one of the world’s best-selling football clubs.
FOCUS FOR ART AND CULTURE
Anyone who thinks that the home of “ManU” has nothing to offer outside of football is wide of the mark. Language tourists and holidaymakers both find not only a huge range of shopping opportunities- the city is second only to London as the UK’s shoppers’ paradise- but also has an active youth scene, which fascinates primarily a younger audience. Visitors with a well-filled wallet have come to the right place in King Street: this is the home of many well known boutiques sporting famous international designer labels. Visitors looking for something more hip and trendy will find it in the city’s northern part, where small, intimate designer shops invite visitors to admire and purchase unique items. Manchester is also known as the art and music destination of the British Isles, with famous groups like Oasis, New Order, The Smiths, Simply Red, Inspiral Carpets, Stone Roses or Happy Mondays.
