French-speaking Switzerland is a wonderful place to learn French. And it is just a stone's throw from a whole other world, on the other side of the "Röstigraben" – as the language and cultural border is known by the Swiss Germans. Geneva and Lausanne are the largest cities in French-speaking Switzerland. They are modern, of international importance and boast many cultural attractions as well as a vibrant nightlife. The city centres feature medieval buildings, charming little alleyways and cafés. Montreux is a gem of a place on Lake Geneva. Huge mountains tower up around this pretty town on the water's edge. Each summer, the world-famous "Montreux Jazz Festival" is held against this enchanting backdrop, attracting over 200,000 visitors from all over the world.
